What’s the latest look for Summer 2018 in Salwar Kameez?
What’s the latest look for spring/summer 2018 in salwar kameez? If you look at the offerings from the top designers like Manish Malhotra or Sabyasachi, you will find the latest trends running in a common vein amongst them.
First, let’s take a look at the overall cut of the kameez. This year, there seems to be a lot of leaning toward the hi-low cut kameez (higher hemline in front and lower hemline in back), or the split long length tunic. Of course, the traditional straight cut kameez is always fashionable, or check out Rajat & Shraddha’s inverted handkerchief cut (longer in front and back, shorter on the sides).
The necklines for this season are trending toward the scoop neckline or the slash neckline and even a bit of mandarin collar styles. For the heat of summer, these types of necklines will keep you fashionable and cool too.
While sleeveless designs are always in vogue during the summer, there are a few sleeve trends occurring this season. The ¾ or bracelet sleeve length is very fashionable right now as is the bell sleeve (where the sleeve is fitted down the arm and flares into a bell shape near the forearm). The open sleeve design which is trending in western fashion is also making an appearance this season in kameez style.
Ever the staple of summertime apparel, georgette is the material of choice, along with net, raw silk and Chanderi silk. Vandana Sethi has some beautiful work done with Chikankari. If you are leaning towards prints, florals are the way to go. Choose smaller florals in your patterns, as the dainty floral design is all the rage.
Depending on the designer, embroidery work can vary greatly. This season, the designers seem to be focusing on two main trends, the heavy gold and silver of the Zardozi Embroidery, or the ever-colorful Kashmiri Embroidery.
Salwar Cut and Design
The full-length salwar with pouncho design around the bottoms is quite popular, as is the dhoti style pant (tapered down to a point) and the churidar style pant (tightly fitted to the lower leg). Another great style this season is the palazzo pant which is great for the warmer season with its flowing, loose style.
The color palette this season is fruity pastel colors. Think pink, peach, tangerine, lime, aqua and robin’s egg blue.
Take these trends and make them your own. Choose a few elements or all of them, and you will be sure to be admired as a true fashionista, dressed in the very latest style!
